In the spring half-term we took a short trip to historic York in the North-East of England. The highlight was a trip to the impressive National Railway Museum. Housed in the museum are some famous locomotives including the Mallard and the Flying Scotsman. The Mallard holds the World Steam Train speed record of 126mph. When we visited, the Flying Scotsman was undergoing a major overhaul in preparation for hauling pleasure trains in the Summer of 2005.
